Journey into the heart of this country’s most influential winemaking community – the famed Gimblett Gravels – this terroir has developed as a world beater renowned for its Bordeaux style varietals and now rapidly pursued by the sky rocketing popularity of its intense Syrah wines.   The special gravely soils, unique climatic conditions plus the expertise of our winemakers – combine to produce a high quality varietal.  Syrah is synonymous with this area, really only grown in Hawke’s Bay it is our wine of choice today.

We will taste a remarkable cross section of the leading syrah wines and meet some of the personalities involved in crafting these award winning wines and gain an insight into the complexities of getting the grape from the vine to the bottle.  Lunch will be a delicious platter of gourmet local food with special wines.

A relaxing stylish and spiritual weekend

Friday afternoon – Sunday – 2 nights – 2 days.  Accommodation – beachside at Waimarama beach.

Our chef will provide tapas food dishes with wine tastings and instruction on wine and food matching to acclimatize your taste buds to the region.

You will be treated to a private Maori powhiri by a Kuia (respected Maori woman) at your property.  This is a symbolic and spiritual welcome onto the land.  We then depart for Black Barn Food Market on the side of spiritual Te Mata Peak to taste local produce.   After, we travel to the Gimblett Gravels for a private wine course guided by a woman wine specialist and owner of a vineyard.    Become absorbed into the vibrant world of Hawke’s Bay wine.

Enjoy a lunch platter of local produce at coastal Clearview winery.

Visit more wineries with their delicious wines and interesting characters.

In the evening enjoy a relaxing BBQ at the beach with local wines.

Enjoy the Hawke’s Bay Farmer’s Market, the oldest NZ market.  After provisioning at the market, continue on to the beautiful garden at Okawa Station for your unique picnic lunch.

Meet our local food artisans, committed to perfection, it is a privilege to be a part of their enthusiasm.  Gather food along the way for our lunch in a rural coastal village to meet an extraordinary Kuia (respected female elder) for a cultural welcome on to her land.   She will take you on a spiritual journey what will clearly demostrate what it is that makes our indigenous people so special.  Our Kuia will share lunch with us and walk with you along her beach talking about her culture, her foods and involve you in her community.

Enjoy a BBQ dinner with wines.

Visit the renowned Gimblett Gravels red wine growing wine district, taste some of the delicious wines and become acquainted with some of the subtilities of what makes these remarkable wines.  During harvest time there is opportunity to join in hand-picking grapes.

Lunch platter of local produce at a Te Awanga coastal winery where you will learn about the basis of food and wine matching under a ‘pasture to plate’ philosophy in a relaxed winery setting,  joined by a winemaker.

Journey through the beautiful Tuki Tuki river valley witness the grandeur of Te Mata Peak and taste the delicious wines from this region.

Our chef will head a ‘hands on’ interactive cooking class and you will be involved in preparing a menu with seasonal local produce, matched with regional wines.

Start the day with beachside yoga.  Meet a Maori artist on her family land and gain an understanding of the cultural, historical and whanau (family) milestones that have forged her spirit and work.

Delicious foods, fruit and wine, Maori elder and artists all set in beautiful rural Hawke’s Bay. Meet our wonderful characters, hear their stories and have fun. Walk amongst the diverse collection of art deco buildings in Napier. Visit creative producers on their land where you can taste, touch and smell the myriad of tantalizing products they make from the deep soils. Visit a rural coastal settlement and talk with a Maori who can provide a spiritual insight into her culture and can clearly demonstrate what it is that makes this indigenous people so special.  She will give you a cultural welcome on to her land.

Enjoy meeting fascinating artists in their studios and view their paintings, sculptures or pots

Walk in the scenic Hawke’s Bay rural countryside, either on a large sheep and cattle station beside a river, or a stunning historic country garden, or remote coastal beach or in native bush or visit an orchard.

This tour is customized for each client and will take the client on a special journey to find the true essence of this beautiful country.

Lunch: Winery or epicurean lunch at a beach house overlooking the sea.

Alternatives: gardens, orchards, walks, farms, sea jet boating and fishing, horse riding.

Take a leisurely kayak down the beautiful Tukituki River in the company of a fun loving and informed local guide.  Meander through stunning rural scenery rich in fish and bird life against a backdrop of weeping willow trees edged with rolling hills where sheep and cattle graze.  Enjoy a swim.

Bring a change of clothes, sunhat, swimsuit, warm sweater and jacket.

Experience the thrill of landing a trout from one of our many well-stocked and beautiful rivers. There are excellent local rivers, some further away where an overnight or two might be necessary alternatively you can fly into and fish in remote areas.

Hawke’s Bay has world class wilderness fishing and with a short helicopter ride you can enjoy a stunning day amongst wild trout. Either walking or by raft.

Guides: have been guiding international fishermen for many years, experienced, respected, and know the rivers extremely well.

Access: because of our rural connections we are fortunate to have access to large tracts of private land on all our lovely river.

Transport by 4 WD or helicopter. Raft fishing available.

Half day 8 am – 1 pm. Full day -  picnic lunch included

Top equipment provided. Wet or dry fly, nymphing and spinning.
